ScanSafe storage becomes Application-Aware
web Security-as-a-Service leader selects Pillar Data Systems
for Oracle optimisation
ScanSafe, the pioneer and world's largest provider of web Security-as-a-Service, has selected Pillar Data Systems' Application-Aware Storage to maintain its Oracle 10g database.
The company wanted to transition from a disparate DAS (direct attached storage) server environment, to an enterprise class Oracle application.
ScanSafe's award-winning services keep viruses and spyware off corporate networks and allow organisations to control and secure the use of the Web and instant messaging. With thousands of customers in over 50 countries and rapid expansion plans, ScanSafe needed a storage solution that was simple to deploy and manage and would scale as its business grew.
With Application-Aware Storage from Pillar, the disk utilisation rates are vastly improved. Typically, most storage administrators over compensate when asked for storage by an application. The Pillar Axiom allows businesses to provision to the capacity and performance required by the demands of the principal applications, while leaving the rest of the storage capacity to be provisioned for less demanding applications such as archive data. This reduces not only the amount of storage you buy, but means that businesses can get more out of existing systems.
"We chose Pillar over the competition due to its fresh approach to the storage market, which mirrored our own innovative approach to web security," said Jim Walker, VP global infrastructure, ScanSafe. "The benefits are significant, including reduced total-cost-of-ownership, as well as higher performance and lower cost per terabyte than other offerings."
"Just knowing that the Pillar Axiom had the same scalability as Oracle made it a much simpler decision for us to make," Walker continued.
"ScanSafe now has an Application-Aware storage system that will grow with the needs of the business," said Chris Jones, VP EMEA at Pillar Data Systems. "Not all applications are created equal. The Pillar Axiom is able to mimic the personality of Oracle catering for its individual needs. This allows for higher utilisation rates and ease of management, a business critical factor for the company. "
